WHY SHOULD WE RECYCLE CRAYONS?

More than 12 Million Crayons are made in the US, EVERY DAY!  100 New Crayons equal about 1 pound, let's do some math. 

12 Million Crayons equals about 120,000 pounds.

That's 60 Tons of Crayons made EVERY DAY with petroleum based wax that eventually ends up in our landfills when they don't have to!

DO WE ACCEPT ALL CRAYONS?

We accept all crayons, but please know that we will sort out and discard crayons made in China and other  foreign countries that may contain lead or plastics.     We ask the restaurants and schools to purchase only American made crayons, although they may cost alittle more, you are assured good quality and not filling US landfills with foreign waste.  We think of CRAYONS and SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT very seriously!

Restaurants should seriously consider purchasing the CRAZY CRAYONS.  Giving these crayons at your tables, says a million words about the your caring restaurant (great advertizing).  The kids will take these crayons home and everyone will remember the restaurant that gave them.  It's all good!

LuAnn Foty, founder of CRAZY CRAYONS and the National CRAYON RECYCLING PROGRAM has been in the crayon recycling business for 17 years!

  • In April 1993, the first “drop off bin” was placed in the entry way of  a grocery store in Troutdale, Oregon.  Now the CRAYON RECYCLE PROGRAM is a national success!
  • LuAnn's first CRAZY CRAYONS were given as Christmas Gifts to children of friends and family.  Soon becoming a "cause" to involve kids with recycling.
  • The CRAYON RECYCLE PROGRAM has COLLECTED OVER 55,000 POUNDS of unwanted crayons since the program started.  Amazing!
  • When the shipments of unwanted crayons arrive for recycling, the boxes are taken to a local work center, employing people with developmental disabilities (OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED in Rhinelander, WI).  They do a wonderful job of meticulously sorting the crayons.  Then the crayons come back to the Crazy Crayon workshop to be melted down, strained, sterilized and hand poured into beautiful, functional works of art for kids to enjoy.
  • Sometimes the Crazy Crayons are packaged by "Opportunities Unlimited".
  • LuAnn is available for doing a "Recycling" Presentation at any school.
  • "EARTHLING", the Crayon Recycle Program Mascot, is always happy to attend Parades or accompany an Earth conscious booth at events.
  • EARTHLING says, "Color me a clean Earth!"
  • Crayons are a petroleum product, they take many years to biodegrade.
  • MORE THAN 12 MILLION CRAYONS ARE MANUFACTURED EACH DAY!!!
  • Just think for a moment, "How many dumpsters does that fill?"
  • CRAZY CRAYONS color just like any other crayon, because we don't add or take away anything from the original crayon in our recycling process.
  • They make wonderful gifts for children, however all CRAZY CRAYONS have a caution on the label stating: "This product is not suitable for children under 3 years".   A standard caution for children products.
  • CRAZY CRAYONS are NON-TOXIC, because they go through an extensive sorting process to use ONLY crayons certified with the Federal Government (U.S. Consumer Product Safty Commission).
